Single Girl Swag: COMPARE

So many times I find myself playing COMPARE. You know what game that is, right? Sure you do. The one where you look at everyone/everything around you and begin measure your strengthens versus theirs, your flaws versus theirs, how much money they have, your body, your hair, your clothes, your intelligence, your good deeds, your work ethic, your efforts, or maybe even, your blogging... GASP.

I hate when I find that I'm comparing myself to my friends or others around me. Actually, I feel like this is a trait most women possess.. Which is so heartbreaking. We are all so wonderful in our own ways, yet the enemy does whatever he can to make us feel as little as possible; which in turn leads to such ugly, sinful emotions like greed and jealousy.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.-- Psalm 139:13-15
This past weekend, I was out with friends and as I was sitting next to one of the girls that was with me, a boy comes up to her and openly gushes on and on about insanely gorgeous she is. No lie, homeboy straight up walks up to us and starts telling my friend how absolutely stunning and beautiful and perfect and breathtaking she is. As I'm sitting elbow to elbow with her, I immediately become extremely uncomfortable. I truly don't care to hear how model-esque my friend is, especially as I spent a good 1.5 hours getting ready tonight and wore my ballin' red pumps...

The more I reflect on it though, the more I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing. Not because the stranger didn't find me gorgeous, but because I do not want to be that kind of a person! A jealous person, an envious person, a self-pity person. It's so ridiculous!

Why can't I be happy for my friend? Why can't I appreciate one of God's creations and know that I am just as equally loved and appreciated by our Heavenly Father? Why can't I realize that I will be that stunning to my future husband one day? Why do I care what complete strangers think of me?!

I've realized the only way I can overcome this terrible habit of comparing, is by diving into the Word and prayer. Unfortunately, I'm flesh and born into sin; we all are. And I'm female so I'm convinced I will always possess a comparing gene somewhere in my DNA. No, not an excuse but also something that is real and that I will have to work to control every single day.  However, it doesn't have to control me. It doesn't have to overrule my heart and my thoughts to the point of pain and suffering like it did on Saturday night.
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God. Proverbs 31: 30
So I encourage anyone that ever struggles with this like I do, to take deep breaths and say a little prayer to the good Lord above and ask that you can see yourself through His eyes; because that is true beauty and the absolute definition of love and admiration.

Single Girl Swag: How I Handled the Fat Joke

In the name of privacy, I've decided to change the names of the people involved in the story; just in case by some random chance these people's eyes actually fall onto this page. Let's get started..

John and Benny are brothers. John is older than Benny but not by too much. I'm friends with both brothers. One day while Benny was out of town, John asked if I could ever see a future romantically with Benny... An interesting and hard to answer question, I did the best I could. I found myself listing all the reasons I thought it would never work out between Benny and I romatincally. John agreed with many of my points, but apparently felt the need to add his own input into the mix. His feedback still makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. He said,
"Yeah, plus you know Benny would probably try and tell you what to eat and what not to eat and you would just be like, 'SCREW YOU, I WILL EAT WHATEVER I WANT.'"
................................ Yeah.

That's exactly what I was thinking too, John. Thanks!

The comment, although harmless and honestly I 'think' meant almost as a compliment (you just have to know John) still left me feeling pretty crappy. I was so shocked, I didn't really know how to respond besides a simple, "yeah."

To be honest, this is kind of the replay of what I was feeling inside.

I started out being like...
Then I was all like...
Then the rage went to this...
Then it go me feeling motivated to do this...

Then, after some inner turmoil...

I realized that worrying about any of this is beyond ridiculous. I know John didn't mean anything bad by the comment and as singletons, we gotta learn to roll with the punches. Despite what that ugly little devil on my shoulder wants me to believe, I know I am worth someone's love.. no matter what I eat.
Then I was back to feeling like this...

Single Girl Swag: The Dog Days aren't Over

If you're curious what this series is, check back here and see the intro :)

For those that know me, it's no secret that I'm pretty much in love with my dogs. They literally fill my entire instagram and tumblr feed.... anddd pretty much every other social media outlet that I am on as well.

There's JJ, my first born, who stays with his grandparents in Oklahoma! He's by far one of the best parts about going home :)

Then there's Jackson! Once I realized JJ didn't like college life too much, I decided I needed ((yes needed)) another furry best friend to have with me. Best decision ever. He brings so much love and happiness into my world!

How typical, right? Single girl and her dog(s).

Anyway, not too long ago a friend that used to live in Fayetteville text me to say hello! It'd been ages since I'd heard from him so, I was stoked to catchup and hear how he was doing. During the middle of our conversation he openly (and boldly) confessed to have had a crush on me back when he lived here a few years ago.

WHAT?! News to me.

I asked him why he never spoke up and told him that he should have... I mean ya never know, right?
Then this happened.
--No, his name isn't really sparky. Yes, it's an annoying name I call people sometimes.

.........................................

Of course I couldn't stop laughing, because I mean he's right! Jackson does get all my loving.

And ya know, I'm OK with that! I firmly believe when the right "one" comes along, both me and my puppies will have no problem sharing the love.

Until then, I think I will stick to laughing at my own stereotype and jamming out to this good ol' Carrie Underwood hit! It probably should be my new ringtone.
